Workshop: "Lighting for the Budget You Have"
Thursday, April 12, 2007, 6:30 - 9:00 pm
"Lighting for the Budget You Have"
Long before you call for that 18 K Par to be pulled off from your 10T
grip truck, or you grab your Lowell kit from the back of your uncle's
borrowed van, the majority of your lighting plan is already done.
Via Your script breakdowns, location(s) scout, shot boards and the
shooting sequence, most of your decisions are made.
Whether you're sitting on a million dollar budget or coughing up
for pizza and sodas, the same questions need to be articulated.
WMFVA is honored to have Peter Sensor from Sensor CinePhoto, Inc.
and Bryan Papierski from Squirm, Inc as our presenters. Peter and
Bryan are two of the most gifted and experienced cinematographers
working from our West Michigan Community.
Come and hear what they have to show and share. Ask questions.
Learn from the collective knowledge gleaned from years of working
with the budgets they had.
Dave and Matt Lowing of Lowing Light and grip are hosting the workshop.
Online registration is closed, but you can still come and pay at the door!

September
Workshop: What Every Screen Actor Needs to Know
Saturday, September 29, 2007, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
The West Michigan Film Video Alliance is proud to present the next seminar in our 2007 series: "What Every Screen Actor Needs to Know." The acting seminar, sponsored by GVSU, is Saturday, September 29, 2007, from 9am to 3pm, lunch provided. This is the perfect opportunity for professional updates about acting in the film and production industry, as well as networking, and training.
Seminar Program:
AM Session
The day begins with a discussion between seasoned actors Lisa Enos, a Michigan native who has recently moved back here after several years as an actor/producer ("Ivan's XTC," "Snuff Film") on the Hollywood scene, and Aziza Amy Poggi, star of the highly acclaimed and award winning indie, "Broken." They are joined by Fred Stella, well-known West Michigan actor, and Sheri Beth Dusek, actor and casting agent with the Fahey Dreher firm that has become synonymous with casting in West Michigan. They will cover life in the acting business, from getting a start to staying smart about success.
Jeff Huyck of Green Frog Photo has produced head shots for TV personalities, actors, and models in West Michigan for several years. He will discuss what it takes to compose a classy, compelling, and creative headshot portfolio, with examples of do's and don'ts.
The morning completes with a representative of Screen Actors Guild from the Detroit headquarters of the state office talking about the benefits of SAG membership and budget provisions for micro-cinema directors.
Lunch (Sandwiches, salad, chips, beverage, dessert) is provided in the DeVos Center Atrium.
PM Session
The afternoon kicks off with a presentation of veteran directors who will share how to get and give the best performances from scripted or improv material. Directors on center stage include Adam Stielstra, Commercial and Indie Director, Anthony Griffin, award winning Indie Director, and Harper Philbin, GVSU Director who has worked with Hollywood producers, actors, and the local scene directing feature film projects. Topics include:
* what a director looks for from an actor at an audition
* what level of preparation a director expects from an actor on set
* what an actor should expect from a director
Also, what it takes to become a professional actor (meaning an actor who makes a living from acting, and has no other "day job"), and the value of professional training (lessons, classes, theater, workshops, actors studios, etc).
The day will conclude with a Q & A session with all participants.
Location: GVSU, Grand Rapids: Pew Campus, DeVos Communication Center, Room 107D
Registration Note: Online registration is "Will Call" style, just check in at the door and your name will be on the list.
You may register at the door, but lunch will NOT be provided. We have to order lunches ahead of time, so only online registrants will be provided lunch.
