Pitch, Shoot, Post & Promote short film contest for West Michigan filmmakers

The West Michigan Film Video Alliance is proud to announce, Pitch, Shoot, Post & Promote, a new short film contest dedicated to promoting filmmakers and filmmaking in West Michigan.

Deb Havens, Chair, WMFVA Board of Directors said the contest is the latest in a series of initiatives celebrating 10 years of Film Alliance support for regional Indie filmmakers. Whatever the political fortunes of the Michigan film incentives, the WMFVA and Indie filmmakers are here and intend to stay here, said Havens. The WMFVAs Pitch, Shoot, Post & Promote contest puts new money behind our traditional Indie support.

Filmmakers will compete for over $1,000 in cash and support services (light kit discounts, connections to free stuff, etc.). Each semi-finalist will be required create a 5-to-7-minute short.

How it Works
To compete, filmmakers must register their project(s) by November 30, 2015. Sign up at the link below. WMFVA members pay a $15 entry fee; for non-members, the fee is $25. WMFVA Premiere Members enter fee-free.

Start with a thought-provoking idea and pitch your original short film concept (no longer than SEVEN minutes) to an audience of film creatives. The audience members will select semi-finalists based on pitches.

Semi-finalists have 30 days to shoot sufficient footage to create a trailer or two minutes of their most compelling footage.

Post & Promote
Next, semi-finalists post their trailers online . The public will then vote for their favorite project (showing their love with cash). Filmmakers collect the proceeds donated by the voting public (minus the 10% WMFVA fee and 3% PayPal) to get them to the next stage.

Post Rough Cut
Next up: Editing and posting the rough cut. Now the voting really gets tough as we turn again to the public for help in selecting the four finalists. Cash voting takes place. Then filmmakers finish their final cut.

Polish and Premiere
Finally, Polished and Premiered! WMFVA provides a special screening opportunity for all four finalists to a room full of film lovers and filmmakers. We will announce the winner at the special award ceremony that night. The winner must be present to win his/her $1,000 check. Winner is determined based on highest totals of cash and votes combined.
