WMFVA launches new film magazine, "Alliance"

The West Michigan Film Video Alliance (WMFVA) is excited to announce the launch of its new film-focused magazine, "Alliance," timed to commemorate WMFVAs 10-year anniversary, and to coincide with the WMFVA/UICAs Visiting Film Artists Series (VFAS) inaugural event September 3-4, featuring Oscar-winning writer/directorand Grand Rapids nativePaul Schrader.

To those who dont know us, this may seem like a strange time to launch a publication with a filmmaking focus, said WMFVA Board of Directors Chair, Deb Havens. After all, on July 10, Governor Snyder officially declared the Michigan film incentive program a dead duck. But we were here supporting the film and production industry well before the film incentives program, and we remain here for the long haul.

"Alliance" is designed for the thousands of filmmakers and film fans in West Michigan, which is known for Indie film production. The inaugural issue of "Alliance" magazine offers its readers snapshots of local film makers and film influencers, starting with:

The recent winners of the West Michigan Eclipse Awards chosen by a panel of local, national and international judges and sponsored by WKTV, WMFVA, and the Compass College of Cinematic Arts.
An in-depth story in which Paul Schrader speaks candidly of his early years in Grand Rapids as a rebellious student at Calvin College, including his surprising opinions on the future of film.
A wrap up of the WMFVA tenth anniversary celebration bash with a memoriam to co-founder Chuck Peterson.
Articles on the upcoming Pitch, Shoot, Post & Promote short film contest with a $1,000 prize, co-sponsored by WKTV's new Digital Cinema program, plus details on the new WMFVA podcast featuring local filmmakers.

The "Alliance" is just one of several new projects instituted by the WMFVA this year to support regional indie filmmakers and further the appreciation for the art and business of film making, commercial, and corporate production in West Michigan.  "Alliance" is designed by Norwood Evans Production and Design of Traverse City, owned by Board of Directors member Krystn Madrine, "Krystn's company donated creative design and labor on this project," said Havens. "We are grateful for the wonderful job they did for the WMFVA!"
