WMFVA 2016 Visiting Film Artist Series Featured Writer/Director Amy Heckerling

The West Michigan Film Video Alliance wrapped up another successful Visiting Film Artist event with Writer/Director Amy Heckerling. Held at Celebration Cinema North in Grand Rapids,  the two day event started off with a Friday night showing of the film Clueless, which Ms. Heckerling wrote and directed, followed by a Q&A session with her in the theater, and a reception in the lobby. The turn-out was a solid representation of Film Video Alliance members and film fans who wanted the opportunity to talk one on one with a successful Hollywood filmmaker.

On Saturday, the afternoon kicked off with a luncheon that set the stage for networking and in depth discussions about filmmaking. Ms. Heckerling spoke for two hours in an open and relaxed atmosphere. She shared about her own film school experience, getting started in Hollywood and about the  challenges of keeping up with a fast changing business. Her theme was one of perseverance and collaboration in the pursuit of ones dreams.

Saturdays crowd was populated with students and faculty from local film programs, local professional filmmakers, and community members interested in hearing about Ms. Heckerlings  career and about the direction of  the industry today. Ms. Heckerling was generous and candid in her remarks and the time went by faster than anyone expected kind of like watching a good film.

The WMFVA is grateful for all of the generous sponsor support received in presenting this years Visiting Film Artists series just one of the many things the West Michigan Film Video Alliance does to fulfill its mission of supporting and cultivating a thriving film community in West Michigan.
